Songwriting Workshop
Workshop Description:
The songwriting workshop exposes students to a professional songwriter and his work.
Through Tom's own work and examples from familiar tunes, students will learn the basic
elements of song that are consistent in any genre of music. The emphasis of this workshop
is on sound lyric writing within the format of at least two verses, a chorus and a bridge.
Tom will help them create, revise, and share their work.
Assessment, Objectives, and Specific Target Skills:
In the course of participating in this songwriting workshop students will:
1. Identify unique characteristics of various music genres.
2. Practice lyric and poetry writing skills such as rhythm, rhyming, and descriptive vocabulary
3. Follow the writing process to create original lyrics.
4. Understand how to review and revise their own songs.
